On September 18th, Digital Humanities @ Berkeley hosted the Bay Area Digital Humanities Meetup at the Magnes Collection for Jewish Art and Life. Started earlier this year, the Bay Area DH Meetup seeks to foster ties between industry, the academy, and the public to promote DH scholarship.
The Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) at the University of Victoria offers intensive week-long workshops on a variety of tools, methodologies, and theoretical frameworks for integrating digital humanities into your research and teaching. In 2014, UC Berkeley was a sponsor of the Institute, offering free or discounted tuition for the ten faculty members and graduate students who attended a wide range of workshops.
The Social Sciences Data Lab (356 Barrows) offers training and consulting to students and researchers interested in sharpening their technical skills and getting involved with data-driven research. D-Lab’s September training includes several beginner-friendly workshops that should be of interest to digital humanists.
Several digital humanities projects in the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program have extended their deadlines to Friday, September 12th. Projects do not require extensive knowledge of subject matter, but will offer undergraduates opportunities to work with digital tools, databases, and archives. Since its beginnings in 2001, the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) at the University of Victoria has grown to become a leading institute for training in the digital humanities (DH). This year, more than 600 participants flocked to Victoria, BC for an intensive week of DH workshops and extracurricular activities.
